A flange, also known as a flange plate or rim, is a disc-shaped component that is usually used in pairs. It is a part that connects one pipe to another and is attached to the pipe ends. The flange has holes that allow two flanges to be tightly connected with bolts, and a gasket (seal ring) is used between the flanges to ensure a seal.

In pipeline engineering, flanges are one of the most common connection methods, second only to welding. They are widely used in various industrial fields such as petroleum, chemical, power generation, water treatment, shipbuilding, and pharmaceuticals.

Essentially, a flange connection consists of a pair of flanges, a gasket, and several bolts and nuts, forming a detachable sealed structure. The greatest advantage of this design is that it ensures the firmness of the connection while allowing future disassembly and maintenance without the need to cut the pipes.

- Connection: Join pipes, valves, pumps, pressure vessels, and other equipment quickly and securely, replacing permanent welding for easier maintenance.

- Sealing: Create a leak-tight joint when paired with gaskets, even in high-pressure, high-temperature, or corrosive environments, adhering to industry standards for tightness.

- Strength & Stability: Add structural strength to components, reduce stress concentration, and guide the movement of machine parts (e.g., railway wheels) to prevent misalignment.

- Accessibility: Enable easy disassembly for inspection, cleaning, repair, or replacement of pipeline/equipment parts without cutting into the system, minimizing downtime.
